Very Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Impressed Bird Decoration, Stamped "WARNE & LETTs 1807," Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, 1807, ovoid jar with footed base and heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a crested bird with long tail, perched on a branch. Impressed above with the large "WARNE & LETTs" maker's mark followed by the date, "1807." Rim decorated with elliptical coggling. One of a small number of Warne & Letts stoneware pieces known with an impressed bird design. A 2 3/8" Y-shaped surface line to underside, not visible on interior. A faint 1 3/4" hairline from rim on front. A very minor 5/8" surface line on interior of rim, not visible on exterior. A 2 1/4" area of in-the-firing salt residue to front. Rim is somewhat out-of-round. H 7 3/4".
