Very Rare Glazed Redware Bank with Reclining Dog Finials, PA origin, second half 19th century, ovoid form on footed base surmounted by two hand-modeled figures of reclining dogs with upturned tails, touching paws, and incised details. Carved slot in shoulder. Surface decorated with marbled manganese and covered in heavy lead glaze. The depiction of two dogs serving as finials on this work is most unusual. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor in 1984. Minor chipping around base. Very nice condition. One dog with minor wear to ears and a small in-the-firing ping to side of snout. Other dog with a chip or in-the-firing ping to ear and a miniscule spot of wear to nose. Extremely minor wear to slot. H 4 3/4".
