Exceedingly Rare Large-Sized Salt-Glazed Stoneware Figure of a Fish with Cobalt Decoration, probably Huntingdon County, PA origin, 19th century, hand-modeled figure of a fish with applied fins and incised scales and other details throughout, decorated with cobalt highlights to the fins, eyes, gills, and mouth. Fish has hollow interior fitted with pieces of clay prior to the firing, allowing it to rattle. Exceptional form. Provenance: Excavated at the Huntingdon, PA town dump. Missing tail. Losses to fins. L 10 1/2".
