Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "GALWAY,VILLAGE," Saratoga County, NY State origin, third quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed flowering plant motif including an elaborate stamen and spots within the blossom. Cobalt highlights to impressed marks. This jar is only the second piece that we have offered bearing a stamp for this town. The other bore the mark "HUDSON & FRENCH / GALWAY VILLAGE, N.Y.". A tight spider crack on underside, including one crack extending 4 1/2" up base on reverse. A small chip to one handle. Minor traces of green paint to surface. H 9 3/4".
