Rare Large-Sized Redware Jug with Manganese Decoration, New England origin, early to mid 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled shoulder, and short pouring spout, its lead-glazed surface decorated with slashes of manganese over a mottled red and orange ground. Heavier concentrations of the lead glaze at the spout and shoulder produces a glossier, orange-colored finish to the jug with appealing runs. Incised wavy line decoration to handle. Exceptional size, measuring roughly two gallons. Excellent condition with a few glaze flakes to spout. H 14".
