Rare Miniature Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, VA origin, possibly Coffman Family, Rockingham County, circa 1850, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, decorated around the body with five brushed, stylized flower blossoms separated by vertical slip-trailed stripes. The style of the brushwork, mix of brushed and slip-trailed elements, and color of this jar suggest it was possibly made by a member of the Coffman family of Rockingham County. Very nice condition. A shallow 1 1/4" base flake, which appears to have occurred in-the-firing. Minor rim chips. A minor surface nick to shoulder. H 4 5/8".
