One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BC MILBURN," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with slip-trailed horizontal tulip motifs. Provenance: The Estate of Susan H. Myers, author of Handcraft to Industry and former Smithsonian Curator of Ceramics and Glass. A 2" rim chip on reverse with a 2" hairline descending from it. A chip to one handle. A small post-firing chip and small in-the-firing chip to opposite handle. A few in-the-firing chips to bottom edge and a minor post-firing chip to bottom edge. A long, inverted Y-shaped line extending from shoulder to base on front. A spot of white paint to reverse. H 9 7/8".
