One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BC MILBURN," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated with a large flowering plant design extending up the front. Four brushed foliate device. Impressed with B.C. Milburn maker's mark under one handle. Provenance: The Estate of Susan H. Myers, author of Handcraft to Industry and former Smithsonian Curator of Ceramics and Glass. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor in-the-firing ping to front. H 9".
