Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt "Eyeglasses" Decoration, Ohio River Valley origin, circa 1830, large-sized, ovoid pitcher with tooled accents to body and rim, boldly-decorated with a repeating brushed design resembling eyeglasses, including three dots above and below each. Spotted decoration to collar. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Albany-slip-glazed interior. With exceptional size and appealing folk art brushwork, this pitcher exhibits characteristics of pieces produced during the early second quarter of the 19th century in the Ohio River Valley region. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some minor streaks of staining. H 14 1/2".
