Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Snail Decoration, probably New Jersey origin, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with squared rim, decorated in slip-trailed cobalt with a stylized swirled design resembling a snail. Heavy shading throughout snail's shell. Reverse inscribed "2 G." in slip-trailed cobalt with three-dimensional effect. Rim chips. Otherwise excellent condition.
