Fine Redware Loaf Dish with Elaborate Lead and Copper Slip Decoration, attributed to Absalom Day, Norwalk, CT, early 19th century, large-sized loaf dish with coggled edge, the interior exuberantly decorated in yellow slip with wave-like trails flanking three circular trails, all with green copper accents throughout. Excellent color and dramatic use of slip cup decoration. A related loaf dish, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, NY, bears the conjoined slip initials, "AD," for early Norwalk, Connecticut potter, Absalom Day. Surface flakes. Chips and wear to edge. Approximately 9" crack from edge. L 16 3/8" ; W 13".
