Rare Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J. REMMEY. / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK.," John Remmey III, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavy tooling to base of spout, featuring the impressed maker's mark of John Remmey III brushed over in cobalt slip. Large cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes early wooden stopper. Exceptional size. Base chips, the largest on reverse, measuring 1 1/4". A small surface flake below handle. A minor nick to spout. A few minor, typical in-the-firing flaws to surface and in-the-firing crazing to surface. H 9".
