Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant on Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON, / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylndrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head, perched on a tree stump. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Two in-the-firing contact marks to front. An in-the-firing iron ping below capacity mark and to left side of jug. A small in-the-firing ping at base on reverse. Some staining. Small spout chips. Sticker residue to reverse. H 14".
