Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn, Stamped "D. ZITTEL / WACO. KY," circa 1870, cylindrical form with flared collar and applied lug handles, the collar and shoulder accented with tooled banding. Shoulder impressed with the large maker's mark, "D. ZITTEL / WACO. KY." Salt-glazed surface. Includes fitting, Albany-slip-glazed lid. A top-to-bottom crack from rim on reverse. A 2 7/8" chipped area to base. Chips to handles. Interior of rim with two chips and light wear. Minor chips and wear to exterior of rim. Minor chips to inner rim for lid. Lid with a small chip and tiny nick to top. H (excluding lid) 16 1/2".
