Pottery Spaniel Doorstop, attributed to George Wagner, Carbon County, PA, circa 1890, molded figure of a seated spaniel with incised details to face, collar, and feet, the surface with traces of old yellow and green paint. Underside was partially hollowed prior to firing. This spaniel is composed of iron-rich clay that has been fired to stoneware temperature and vitrified, differing from the typical redware spaniels produced at this pottery. Base chips. A firing crack to underside. A firing line along edge of spaniel's chest, continuing a short distance horizontally along edge of base. H 5 3/4".
