Two NY State Stoneware Churns with Cobalt Decoration, third quarter 19th century, a five-gallon example with elaborate slip-trailed floral decoration and old wooden lid, stamped "W-A-LEWIS / GALES-VILLE N-Y," circa 1858; paired with a four-gallon example with elaborate brushed and slip-trailed plant motif, stamped "WHITE'S UTICA NY." Lewis churn with large areas of restoration, not affecting cobalt, and small chips to interior of rim. White's churn missing handle, with significant cracks, a poorly-filled hole in underside, some wear to cobalt, rim chips, and staining. H (of Lewis churn) 17 3/4".
