Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "C. CROLIUS, / MANUFACTURER, / NEW-YORK.," Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed drape-and-tassel motif on the front and reverse. Brushed cobalt highlights to tops of handles. A large in-the-firing salt glob to shoulder on reverse. Several small rim chips. A Y-shaped crack across underside, with one part of the Y extending up side of jar onto shoulder, where it extends several inches horizontally, and another extending onto base area on front. In-the-firing flaws to surface, including two surface chips. Some exfoliation to interior and minor exfoliation to exterior at base. H 13 7/8".
