Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flower Basket Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a basket brimming with a large floral spray, accented throughout with spotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An 8 1/4" crack from rim on front. A 1 1/8" chip to front of rim. A 1" chip and minuscule nick to interior of rim. Restoration to rim and shoulder on front. Some additional restoration to right half of crock's front, not affecting decoration. A small in-the-firing iron ping to reverse. H 10 1/8".
