Scarce Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "S.AMBOY.N.JERSY," attributed to Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, the collar and shoulder accented with dentile coggling. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Brushed cobalt circle on reverse. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection. Significant restoration to front. Exfoliation to base on reverse. Base chips. A shallow 1" chip to top of rim. A small rim chip. An in-the-firing ping to interior of rim. Some small in-the-firing surface flaws. H 11".
