Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "S.AMBOY.N.JERSY," attributed to Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jug with tooled neck, featuring the large impressed and cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "S.AMBOY.N.JERSY" above a scalloped drape motif. Scarce mark, desirable size, and excellent color. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Recently surfaced in New Jersey. Cracks to bottom half of jug and underside. An in-the-firing contact mark to top of spout/handle, including an in-the-firing chip to interior of spout. A minuscule spout nick. Shallow base chips. H 9 1/4".
