Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Canning Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, cylindrical jar with footed base and narrow opening with squared rim, decorated completely around the shoulder with a stem bearing tulips and graduated leaves. Unusual one-gallon capacity mark at shoulder. Exceptional form, rarely seen from this period. A thin 5" crack on underside, extending 5 1/2" diagonally up body of jar in one place and 1 1/2" up base of jar in another place. Minor traces of old red paint to surface. H 10 1/2".
