Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Impressed Fish Design, Stamped "BOSTON," Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, open loop handles, and heavy tooling to rim and shoulder, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a fish. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Heavy water glass staining to interior. Some water glass staining to exterior. In-the-firing contact marks to front, which include some surface chips. A 4" hairline from rim on reverse. A 3/4" rim chip to reverse. A Y-shaped hairline on underside, the tail of which extending 4 3/4" up base of jar. Small base chips. H 11 1/4".
