Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "J. EBERLY & BRO. / STRASBURG / Va.," circa 1880, semi-ovoid pitcher with tall, flaring collar, decorated around the body with a series of swags and hanging flowers. Swag decoration to rim and diagonal dashes along spout. Impressed with J. Eberly & Bro. shield mark on side of collar. Relatively few signed pitchers by this important Shenandoah Valley potting family are known. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Restored handle, including touch-up to terminals. A small glazed-over base chip on reverse. Faint areas to impressed shield. H 11 3/8".
