Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Stenciled Cobalt Eagle Motif, Stamped "BROWN BROTHER , / HUNTINGTON, / L.I.," New York State origin, circa 1870-1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a flying Federal eagle with shield across its chest. Light cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Relatively few examples of Brown Brothers stoneware with this design are known. Very nice, essentially as-made condition with a few small in-the-firing iron pings to body and a 3/4" iron ping to interior of rim, as well as some water glass staining to interior. H 8 7/8".
