Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate motif with splayed leaves. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a forty-year private collection. Significant spider crack to left side of jug's front and jug's left side, including chips along crack. Heavy chipping to base.
