Rare Large-Sized Stoneware Presentation Figure of a Spaniel, Incised "J.C. Rivers," Marked "rK," Midwestern origin, circa 1885, molded figure of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, seated on a rectangular base with canted corners. Surface covered in a dark-brown Albany slip and sgraffito-decorated with details to the face, collar, and locket. Base incised with the name, "J.C. Rivers," and decorated with incised foliate devices, a square and compass motif, and an anchor. Top of base with applied relief initials, "rK." Exceptional size. Provenance: Recently surfaced in Missouri. Excellent condition with some shallow chipping to base. H 11 1/2" ; W 8 1/2".
