Rare and Fine Glazed Stoneware Spaniel Doorstop, Inscribed "Dan," Ohio origin, late 19th century, molded figure of a seated spaniel, the surface dipped in Bristol slip, decorated with dipped Albany slip to the head and rear, and decorated with cobalt highlights throughout. The name, Dan, appears in cobalt at the dog's ankles, a rare treatment. Also rare is the addition of heavy cobalt spotting to the animal's cheek, chin, and ear. Excellent condition with some in-the-firing glaze spalling, a small chip at base on reverse, and a minor nick to muzzle. H 9 1/2".
