Slip-Decorated Redware Jar, attributed to Nathaniel Seymour, West Hartford, CT, late 18th or early 19th century, cylindrical jar with footed base, tapered shoulder, and flared rim, the lead-glazed surface decorated with brushed yellow slip stripes flecked with copper oxide. The horizontal striped orientation of the decoration is unusual for this maker. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a recently-surfaced Brooklyn, NY collection. Wear to rim. Small flakes and wear to slip. Light surface wear throughout. Base wear. A line across underside. Some horizontal lines to base area, possibly in-the-firing. H 8 3/4".
