Fine One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Maysville, KY Advertising, Stamped "N. COOPER & POWER," Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim and tooled accents to midsection and shoulder, decorated completely around the shoulder with a series of freehand drapes set between horizontal stripes. Freehand stripe decoration below rim. Shoulder impressed with the mark of Maysville, Kentucky merchants, Newton Cooper and his brother-in-law, Hugh Power. A narrow 2 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark to one side, which includes a small chip and a small amount of clay residue. A shallow 1" base chip. Traces of in-the-making/firing spattered Albany slip to surface. A small amount of old paint residue to one side. Minor wear.
