Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt and Iron Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, late 18th or early 19th century, highly-ovoid pitcher with footed base, tooled shoulder, and heavy incising to collar. Decorated on the front with a brushed cobalt spot and on the collar with a dipped iron-oxide slip. This combined use of cobalt and iron slips is rarely seen. Missing handle. A tight spider crack on underside, which forms a tight 4" Y on reverse side of pitcher. A chip to interior of spout and an in-the-firing, partially glazed-over rim chip on reverse.
