Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Star Face Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS," NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a man's face surrounded by eight pointed rays. The slip-trailed number "3" appears twice at the shoulder. Among the most distinctive New York State stoneware designs, exhibiting excellent color. Provenance: Recently found in New York State. A sealed crack from rim on front. Otherwise excellent condition with some light staining to shoulder area.
