Four-Quart Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to the White's Pottery, Utica, NY, circa 1865, ovoid pail with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay ears with wood-and-wire bail handle. Decorated on the front with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird atop a stylized branch. Reversed impressed "4" for four quarts. Large areas of surface crazing. A silver paint drip to right side of pail. A small amount of old, orange paint to bird decoration. A minor chip to top of rim and a small, glazed-over rim chip.
