Monumental Flint Enamel Hotel Spittoon, Stamped "LYMAN FENTON & CO. / FENTON'S ENAMEL / PATENTED / 1849. / BENNINGTON, Vermont," circa 1849-1852, molded spittoon composed of twelve rounded panels with oval opening at shoulder and circular opening in recessed top, the surface decorated with streaks of brown and amber over a cream-colored ground. Impressed "L" under opening at shoulder. Underside impressed with Lyman, Fenton & Co. maker's mark. The largest Bennington, Vermont or Bennington-type spittoon that we have ever offered. A reglued 2 3/4" x 2 1/2" wedge to interior adjacent to the opening with some tiny lossses along reglued area. Minor rim chips. H 7" ; Diam. 15".
