Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "J. REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," John Remmey III, Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid pitcher with tooling to rim and base of collar, impressed with the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark of John Remmey III on the front. An elegantly-potted example from an important and prolific stoneware-producing city that rarely produced this form. One of a few signed John Remmey III pitchers known. Provenance: From a forty-year private collection. Handle poorly restored, including cracks to restoration at the handle's terminals. Some restoration to spout, rim, and base. Some exfoliation to surface. H 13 1/2".
