Very Rare Ovoid Stoneware Jug with Incised Decoration of Flying Birds flanking a Flowering Plant, attributed to Branch Green, probably Philadelphia, PA, circa 1820, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an artistic incised design of a flowering plant with two birds flying toward it. The distinctive spout treatment of this jug leads to a strong attribution to Northeastern U.S. potter, Branch Green, during his tenure in Philadelphia, circa 1820. Highly unusual design and method of decoration as the vast majority of Green's work is coggle-decorated. Excellent condition with some minor nicks to spout and some typical in-the-firing contact marks. H 14 3/4".
