Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with an intricate slip-trailed design of two daisies emanating from a central, scrolled stem with leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Artistic decoration and excellent color. Several short cracks to base on right side of jug, A 2 1/4" x 7/8" flake to underside, beside a small flake. Staining to surface. A minor chip to top edge of spout and a tiny flake to top of spout.
