One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stonington, CT origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an abstract foliate motif resembling a tree. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Chipping around base, some of which is glazed over. Small rim chips. Spider lines to surface. Surface with a 2 1/2" area of in-the-firing pitting, some glaze flaws and mottling, and a small glazed-over iron ping.
