Very Rare Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, attributed Abraham Mead, Greenwich, CT, circa 1795, narrow-bodied, ovoid form with footed base and tooled spout, decorated with a slip-trailed star design surrounded by spots. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Heavy chipping to base. Two in-the-firing surface chips to front, including an adhered piece of clay to front. A 1" in-the-firing surface flake to right side. Two pieces of adhered clay to handle and top of spout. In-the-firing crazing to surface. H 11".
