Rare Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn, Stamped "J.M. HICKERSON / STRASBURG, VA," circa 1890, straight-sided churn with tooled shoulder, dramatically-flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed swag-and-hanging-flower motif. Impressed under one handle with J.M. Hickerson maker's mark below a partial three-gallon capacity mark. Chips to handles. Rim chip and 7/8" crack from rim. Wear to base. Two in-the-firing recessed spots to surface.
