Scarce One-Gallon Glazed Redware Jar, Stamped "S. BELL & SON. / STRASBURG," VA origin, circa 1890, ovoid jar with squared rim, the lead-glazed surface decorated with splashed manganese over a mottled orange. Impressed with S. Bell & Sons maker's mark at shoulder. The orange-and-brown color scheme of this jar is significantly rarer than the three-color multi-glaze commonly seen by this maker. Tight cracks to one side of jar. Area of exfoliation to underside. A shallow chip to inner edge of rim. Wear to edges of rim. Some light surface wear and minor exfoliation to base area.
