Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "SOLOMON BELL / STRASBURG, / Va," circa 1880, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and extruded lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large swag and hanging flower motif, applied over slip-washed clay. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with Solomon Bell maker's mark and a six-gallon capacity mark under one handle. Desirable size. One handle restored. A restored 2 1/2" section to rim area, including a small amount of touch-up to swag decoration in that area. H 16 3/4".
