Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J.M. HICKERSON / STRASBURG, VA", circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a three-blossomed floral motif. Impressed with James M. Hickerson maker's mark under one handle. Numerous small rim chips. A 4 1/2" diagonal hairline from rim. A shallow chip and minor nick to one handle. A minor nick to opposite handle. A base chip.
