Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER," NY State origin, circa 1860, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly-slip-trailed wreath with bow at base, surrounding the number "5." Light cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Exfoliation below decoration, extending onto left side of churn. A small in-the-firing surface flake to base of decoration. A long, shallow chip to one handle.
