Fine Shenandoah Valley Slip-Decorated Redware Cup, Stamped "Backer." and BAECHER / WINCHESTER, VA", Anthony Bacher, Winchester, VA, circa 1880, semi-ovoid form with footed base, tooled shoulder, and flared rim, the lead-glazed surface dipped in cream-colored slip and decorated with marbled manganese throughout. Underside impressed twice, "Backer.", and once "BAECHER / WINCHESTER, VA". Classic Bacher glaze treatment with an unusual employment of two different maker's marks. Areas of restoration. Vast majority of glazed surface is original. Wear to rim. Hairline to lower handle terminal. H 3 7/8" ; Diameter (across top) 4 3/8".
