Two One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Stamped "CORTLAND," Madison Woodruff, possibly in partnership with Romanzo Smith, Cortland, NY, circa 1867-1869, both of similar cylindrical form with tooled shoulder and flared rim, each decorated with different brushed and slip-trailed floral motifs. Each impressed with a maker's marks of different size and font, highlighted in cobalt. One with a chip to interior and exterior of rim, a small in-the-firing contact mark to front, and some water glass staining to interior. Other jar with a chip to interior of rim, a minor base chip, two minor chips to inner rim for lid, and some staining to surface.
