Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with semi-rounded and extruded lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a hanging spotted tulip motif, applied over slip-coated clay. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark under one handle. As-made condition. Jar was misshapen during the firing and includes in-the-firing contact marks to surface.
