Fine Slip-Decorated Redware Dog on Base, PA origin, circa 1840-1880, hand-modeled figure of a seated dog on oblong base, featuring an impressed locket and collar with unusual impressed chain and incised details to head, feet, and hunches. Lead-glazed surface decorated with splashes of yellow slip and manganese highlights over a brownish-orange ground. An in-the-firing 1 1/4" base chip on reverse and an in-the-firing flake to tail. Dog appears to have separated from the base during the firing and was reglued to the base after the fact, as the dog's rear legs do not sit perfectly flush with the base. L 5 3/4" ; H 5".
