One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Impressed Drape-and-Tassel Motif, Stamped "COMMERAW.S / CORLEARS HOOK", NY State origin, circa 1810, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, slightly-flared collar, and open loop handles, featuring impressed drape-and-tassel decorations on the front and reverse. Front additionally impressed with the maker's mark, "COMMERAW.S", and reverse impressed "CORLEARS HOOK". Cobalt highlights to impressed decoration, maker's mark, and handle terminals. Desirable size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. One handle crudely-restored. Base chips. A crack on underside, continuing onto base in two places. A filled flake on underside, not visible on interior. A 1 3/4" hairline from rim on reverse. A tiny rim chip. Some spider lines on reverse, barely visible on interior.
