Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Double Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of crossed birds perched on a tree branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a 3 1/2" light-blue salt drip under right handle.
