One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT;", circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of crested bird perched on a branch accented with spotted trails. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An unusual size for this classic Norton motif. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a 2 1/2" U-shaped surface line at base on front, not visible on interior.
